On 17 November 1997 I set off with Kuzma for a week in Moscow. Back then GTC sold super cheap plane tickets to all over the world and Moscow cost about 1950 CZK for both ways. The decision was made on Friday and by Monday noon we were already flying.
In the queue for the tickets we hooked up with two decent dudes from Liberec and we landed in Moscow with them too. A week was enough for a complete tour of Moscow and it was reeeally interesting.
At the airport we got talked into a ride by a very odd taxi driver who didn't have a taxi, but an antique Zhiguli with no markings. Anyway, he knew about a cheap hotel, which was actually a communist prefab block.
From there we took the metro into town every day for our trips and it took more than an hour.
We also wanted to make ourselves a Chinese soup in the room in a mess tin over a camping stove. It ended with a bump in the lino and moving the beds around.
It went like this:
We had a Chinese soup, a stove and a mess tin with us. So there we are in that prefab flat boiling water for the soup. The water's boiling, I go to lift it off. Kuzma says: "Hang on, ..."
He didn't finish, I know how to grab a mess tin, don't I. Unfortunately what he wanted to say was that his one has a broken handle :-)
We're sitting on the beds, cracking up over the spilled water and the tipped over mess tin. We let it cool down...
When it's cold, I want to pick it up. It won't budge. I bash it from the side, can't tear it off the floor. I yank it with all my strength, then Kuzma, then the lads. Nothing. In the end I had to put on a hiking boot and kick it with a run-up. The mess tin got deformed and finally tore off the lino.
Underneath it, there was a little hill left on the lino, about 5 cm high! As we were letting it cool down, the air in the mess tin was shrinking and it pulled the warmed-up lino up into the air.
Well, we had to move the beds so that a bed leg was standing on the hill :-). I reckon someone later racked his brains in vain over how that little hill got there :-)
