A hundred-year-old cottage in the Krkonoše mountains, 10 dads, 15 kids, a treasure hunt game, a climb up Sněžka and plenty of fun :-)
Bob and Viňďa were the only ones to make it on time to pick up the keys from the caretaker. Then Pápa turned up with Žolík, Juris with Jožin and Vašek, in the night Koři with Barka and Žofka and finally Mráza with Elí and Terďa.
In the morning Bob managed to chase us out pretty early, so the whole squad was standing in front of the cottage just after nine. It's about 2 km on foot to the lower cable car up Sněžka. Because the weather was gorgeous, we only bought tickets as far as Růžová hora, figuring we'd simply walk the upper part with the kids. In the end we really pulled it off, even Žofka, Jožin and Terďa got motivated by the crowd and charged off towards the summit. A bit below the top a horrible gale started blowing, but the sky was still beautifully blue, so it was warm. Lunch at the summit, we didn't feel like going back outside, the wind was showing 17 m/s.
We descended from Sněžka down the other side towards the Polish hut and into Obří důl, the wind was really annoying. The kids kept trucking along on their own feet, we were amazed. Breaks were up at the waterfall, down by the Úpa river and then one BIIIIG break in front of the hut in Obří důl, where we had ice lollies, Krakonoš beers, dinner, Krakonoš beers, jumping over the stream, Krakonoš beers, then the kids set out on an expedition hunting for treasure on the bottom of the stream all the way to the forest and the sun was blazing so much that the dads stripped to the waist and the waitress bashfully lowered her eyes :-)
We got back to the cottage just in time to wash up and fall asleep. Most of the dads put themselves to sleep along with the kids, it had been a demanding day :-).
In the evening Ziky arrived with Mates and Zero with Julinka. Oh and Karel rumokol with Alexandr.
Footage of a level 5 slide traffic jam in front of the Máma hut:
After a slightly action-free morning, because it was raining and general exhaustion reigned, the olympics kicked off.
Events:
- Bowling - surprisingly a huge hit with the kids, the staff's tolerance was unheard of!
- running drills ABC
- sack jumping
- egg-and-spoon race
- running with a bag under your chin
- long-distance cherry pit spitting
- shooting pits at a target
- riding a trapeze on a rope
During the day Zajda also showed up with Violka and her big brother Vojta.
The treasure hunt game at the end was brilliantly prepared. 4 teams set off along a route marked with ribbons. Every second ribbon was blue, which meant finding a task nearby and completing it. At the end of the route, buried treasure! The kids were naturally thrilled.
After returning from the treasure, a fire in the stove and a pile of healthy hot dogs for the kids :-)
After dinner Kuzma arrived with Kačenka and Tomík and with that we were complete :-)
In the morning even those 15 kids and ten weary dads could be chased out in front of the house just a bit after ten and we set off on the walking route Pec - MiniBull - Barborka - Husova bouda - Zahrádky - Lesní bouda with a long break for lamb sirloin in cream sauce and blueberry dumplings - Liščí hora - Chata na rozcestí with a huge blueberry harvest :-) - Výrovka - and then a dash down the hill.
All the kids, motivated by the big gang and by the inventiveness of the dads, who didn't want to carry anyone, walked the whole enormous route with a killer elevation gain and without a word of complaint. It was about 20 km, which is quite an achievement for three to six-year-old tykes in the mountains.
Before the last batch made it to the cottage, Mráza and Zero whipped up a pile of luxurious spaghetti with a meat sauce and Kuzma then finished it off with a pile of schnitzels from home :-)
The kids obviously couldn't fail to notice that there's a huge bobsled track in Pec and from the start they kept begging about when we'd finally go there.
Since the final clean-up was a concert of efficiency without any unnecessary talking, we were done by ten and set off to the bob track on foot. The kids were squealing with excitement and so the original resolution of one ride and that's it quickly went out the window. Also because the dads enjoyed it too :).
Group lunch again at the old-Czech pub U Krakonoše at the crossroads. Not every place is capable of serving 15 kids sensibly and with sensible food, so we went with the sure thing.
During lunch big plans were still being made for another high-mountain hike, but with every additional dumpling the kids' pleas to go back to the Relax park won out, this time for the water slides and trampolines. And so it happened, and some of the slides were so steep that they even put off most of the dads. But not the kids :-)
